Lions Club District 404 A3
Diabetes Campaign
Diabetes affects over 530 million people worldwide and remains a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, and lower limb amputation. Lions Clubs International is deeply committed to reducing the prevalence and impact of diabetes through prevention, early detection, and management.
Community-based diabetes screening events are central to Lions’ strategy, often conducted in collaboration with local clinics and hospitals. In the U.S. and India, mobile diagnostic units funded by Lions operate in underserved communities, identifying at-risk individuals and connecting them with care.

Educational initiatives are equally critical. Lions conduct workshops and distribute materials on healthy diets, exercise, and lifestyle modifications. Children’s programs aim to foster early habits to prevent childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Partnerships with diabetes associations and nutritionists amplify these efforts.
The District's Focus
In Our District, a Lions pilot project trained community health workers to become diabetes educators. This initiative not only improved patient outcomes but also strengthened healthcare systems by decentralizing expertise.
Globally, Lions also fund research into new treatments, assist with insulin access, and advocate for health equity. Evaluating impact through data collection and outcome tracking helps fine-tune interventions.
